Though we are presiding over 21st century, our collective mindset is definitely not depicting that. Menstruation is not a problem but a need for every woman across the globe. Yet, we are under the stigma all over.
Across the world, people can’t freely talk about menstruation. They are almost ashamed to do so. There are many health related and hygiene issues, which are left unaddressed.
Coding Consortium Unicode, who is in charge of making emojis will also include this period emoji, along with 230 other emojis for March,2019.
Though this inclusion of a period emoji was instigated by Plan International UK, who led a campaign for this much needed awareness.
You can check the tweet by Plan International UK, where they were quite happy to announce that they are getting a period emoji.

We wouldn’t have been able to do this without our friends @GiveBloodNHS , who developed the joint proposal for the blood drop emoji with us
— PlanInternational UK (@PlanUK) February 6, 2019
Here are the responses where people can be seen commenting that how they are not impressed at all. For they can only see a symbol of a drop of blood, which is quite common with the masses. It failed to represent anything specific.
Though there are people who are all for this welcoming change and is supporting it like never before.

@Emojipedia says that it’s a drop of blood. I don’t see anything that says this is a period emoji.

Speaking of which, a pad or tampon emoji would have worked better. A red droplet is likely to be used for many situations besides its intended usage and can be misinterpreted as something besides menstruation awareness.

It's a drop of blood. Not a period emoji. And when this rolls out in the new set of emoji I hope to see it used and adapted by hospitals, doctors, nurses and the red cross to encourage people to donate blood to save lives. You know, a real cause.

I’d be way more impressed with a used pad and tampon emoji.

So exciting that after a campaign by @PlanUK we'll be getting a #periodemoji! This sends a clear message that periods are natural and normal and shouldn't be taboo! #girlsrights https://t.co/vjcBgQcN05
